Zelda Fitzgerald
Zelda Fitzgerald was the wife of writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. She was dubbed "the first American Flapper" by her husband in his first novel making the two celebrities of the nineteen twenties. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia but is also thought to have had bipolar disorder. Zelda was bright, active, and a leader in the youth social scene. As her husband became increasingly successful, Zelda focused more and more on ballet. At age twenty seven she focused nearly eight hours every day on her dancing but her husband, Scott, considered it a total waste of time despite her pure talent. She overworked herself which caused mental distress and led her to psychiatric evaluation and eventually her diagnosis with schizophrenia. She spent a good remainder of her life dealing with her illness and spent a good amount of time writing and painting.
